Mykonos excursions: Excursions in the Mykonos island, Greece
Mykonos island is a small island compared to other
islands of the Cyclades but has many to offer. There are many things
to discover and you will need a couple of days to cover everything
. For those you enjoy sun and sea baths, definitely more than a
week. This is not the list with all the mykonos excursions but those
we have chosen for you.
::The Church of Paraportiani
It is located in Mykonos Town, in the area of Castro.
The Panagia Paraportiani is definitely the most famous church of
Mykonos and also the most photographed monument of the island. The
Church, actually, is a complex consisting of four churches amalgamated
in an asymmetrical one.
The church was built in the 15th century. It took its name from
its position next to the entrance of an old medieval castle, today
destroyed.
::Little Venice It
is located in Mykonos Town and it is considered as one of the trademarks
of Mykonos Island. It is more exactly situated in the area of "Alefkandra".
Alefkandra is a small sandy beach in the town. If you get there, you
will really be impressed by the
landscape. It is something unique in Greece:
::The islet of Delos
It is located a few miles southwest of Mykonos.
In Ancient Times, Delos was considered as one of the most important
religious centres of Greece.
According to the Greek mythology, Delos was the birth place of Apollo,
the god of light and Artemis, the goddess of hunting.
The excavations of Delos started in 1873 and, in 1990, Delos was
included in the World's Cultural Heritage, protected by the UNESCO.
You can find there the vestige of one of the greatest civilization
ever and discover temples, theatres, houses…and a nice museum.
::The Super Paradise beach It
is one of the most famous beaches of the island of Mykonos with clear blue crystal
water.
It is also known as the gay beach. The best manner to reach the beach
is with the caïque (small fishing boat).
A really nice mykonos excursion. Other nice beaches: all of them…
houses
with multicoloured porches, windows, doors and wooden balconies with
the waves breaking under
them. The houses are built in the Venetian
architecture and it is a beautiful contrast with the rest of
the town built in the classical Cycladic architecture.
This area is a world famous not only for its beauty but also for the
atmosphere created by the trendy cafés and bars visited by
many artists and show business celebrities.
::The
Windmills
There are located in Mykonos Town, on the opposite side of the famous
"Little Venice". There are four beautiful white windmills
also considered as the trademark of the island.
From this side of the bay, the windmills area is offering a beautiful view over the Little
Venice.
